At a glance
Sysmex Corporation, a global leader in the clinical testing field, decided to enhance its global operations management system by introducing SAP ERP, which it had already installed at its headquarter, to its bases in China. For this purpose, NEC built a robust system platform utilizing the NEC Express5800/SIGMABLADE Blade Server along with NEC SigmaSystemCenter total platform management software, the highly reliable NEC Storage solution, and MasterScope JobCenter job management software. This enabled high business continuity and data integrity along with excellent scalability.
Installation background and issues
- With the rapid growth of its overseas operations, Sysmex urgently needed to enhance its global management system. So it decided to expand its use of SAP ERP, which it had already adopted at its headquarter in Japan, to its overseas bases in Asia, Europe and North America. This move led to SAP introduction at Sysmex Shanghai Ltd., one of its offices in China. For this purpose, the primary focus was on the system platform. Being a global management system, the platform had to provide high-level business continuity. And with future business growth on the horizon, a sufficient level of scalability was also a requirement.
Installation results
- When building the system, multiple servers plus one backup server were allocated, providing high-level business continuity by allowing automatic switching to the backup server in case of failure. Environment expansion was also enabled through simple policy setting additions when adding another server, ensuring high-level scalability.
- Proper data integrity was offered by creating a backup within the storage unit itself using DDR (Dynamic data replication) and creating an additional backup on tape. It also helps reduce TCO by automating backup operations.
NEC’s Proposals
- Working with NEC’s Chinese subsidiaries NEC IT Management (Shanghai) Ltd., and NEC Solutions (China) Co., Ltd., NEC offered a proposal for a total solution that included SAP system and platform building and even maintenance.
- NEC proposed using the NEC Express 5800/SIGMABLADE server and NEC SigmaSystemCenter integrated platform management software with N+1 Recovery system to build a platform with high-level business continuity.
- NEC proposed reliable NEC Storage. NEC also proposed automating backups through MasterScope JobCenter.
