Teikyo University Hospital, located in Itabashi, Tokyo, introduced full-IP communication infrastructure combining NEC "UNIVERGE SV7000" and NTT DOCOMO FOMA®/Wireless LAN Dual-Network Handset "onefone™" to Japan's largest new hospital ward opened in May 2009. Integrating voice and data into one handset enables medical staff to send/receive and confirm patient information by linking with other devices such as nurse call system and contributes to their work style innovation.
*FOMA®/Wireless LAN Dual-Network Handsets "onefone™" are used for extension calls (wireless LAN).
Installation background and issues
- In its plan to build a new hospital ward, Teikyo University looked for a communication infrastructure to save time for medical staff and eliminate loss time.
- Using FOMA®/Wireless LAN Dual-Network Handsets that can handle both voice calls and data communications was the first thing they decided as medical field handsets.
Installation results
- Staff gave high regard even at the beginning of the operations, and the new infrastructure helps them voluntarily improve smooth communications through the solutions NEC provided.
- Significant reduction in costs and workloads is expected for moving terminals as the layout is frequently changed.
- Further system utilizations to advance the medical field such as providing new services using location information of wireless LAN handset.
NEC's Proposals
- Proposed integrated full-IP voice/data solutions including wired and wireless, and constructed the medical industry's largest VoIP system.
- In cooperation with a nurse call system vendor, tailored to intuitive communications such as Kana display on mobile handsets, illumination lighting, and different ringtones indicating caller locations or purposes.
